Vivian "Nell" Newton was born November 17, 1940, to Charlie Mae Walters and Lucius McQueen in Palestine,Texas. Nell as she was known, accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Lilly Island Baptist church while growing up. 

In 1961, she relocated from Texas to Berkeley, CA with her son David, in hopes of a better life and a Cadillac. There she met and married her best friend Ruben Lee Newton Jr. in 1967. 

One child, Sabrina Newton was born to this union. 

Nell loved her family, going to Disneyland, and as she would put it just having a good time sitting, talking, and laughing.

Nell traded her sickness and pain for her wings on May 12, 2022.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Mae Walters, Lucius and Bessie Mae McQueen, Husband of 42 years Ruben Newton, Son David Anthony McQueen, and Brother Malik Shabazz. 

She leaves to honor and cherish her memory Daughter Sabrina Newton of Oakland,CA,Step children Tony Newton of Crossett,AR, Glenn Newton (Mildrid) of Crosett, AR, and Gale (Steve) Williams of Vacaville, CA.  Daughter in law, Shelby McQueen of Dallas, TX. Four siblings Ruth (Otis) Taylor of Houston, Texas, Reginald McQueen of Lufkin, TX, Maggie Copland of Houston, TX and Nina (Doug)Chew of Mountain House, CA. Brother in law Issac Newton of Oakland, CA. Grandchildren Anthony McQueen of Richmond, Ca, Qiana Newton of Oakland, CA, Dominic Newton of Atlanta, GA, Andrea Newton of Crossett, AR, Chantel Chambers of Las Vegas, NV, Paula Chambers of Atlanta, GA, Passion Chambers of Oakland, CA, Vincent Newton of Crossett , AR and Deaven McQueen of Dallas, TX.  Great Grandchildren Jayana Lewis, Alyssa Rose McQueen, and Peyton Barboza. Special Cousin Margie Mayes of Moreno Valley, CA; Best  Friends Sara Woods of Villa Rica, GA and Marie Mosby of Arlington, VA.  Along with a Host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends. 

A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Grissom's Chapel & Mortuary,  267 E. Lewelling Blvd. San Lorenzo.  Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am. 

Ms. Vivian will be laid to rest at Rolling Hills Memorial Park, Richmond, Ca.
