Virginia Bettencourt Brown entered peacefully into rest in Hayward on September 12, 2018. She was 92 years old.
The second of four children blessed to Antonio & Mary Bettencourt, Virginia was born in El Cerrito, California on November 24, 1925. She attended Harding Elementary School and graduated from El Cerrito High School in February 1944. She enjoyed a short but successful banking career at American Trust Bank in Richmond from 1944 to 1948, and Bank of Berkeley from 1950 to 1952.
Virginia met and fell in love with Leonard Brown, sharing 52 years of marriage prior to his passing in December 2001. Virginia enjoyed being a social butterfly, belonging to various clubs including Southland Seniors, Bayfair Seniors, Dublin Seniors, San Ramon Seniors, Senior Friends of San Leandro and Cactus Corners, a country line dancing group. Virginia was devoted to her faith and was a longtime parishioner of St. Felicitas Catholic Church. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed.
Virginia is survived by her sons, J. Michael, Patrick and Maurice Brown; daughter in law, Susanne Brown; grandchildren, Maxwell, Zóe, Alexander, Shannon and Lindsey Brown; great- grandchildren, Aria and Myles Brown; and many cherished extended family and friends.
She was preceeded in death by her siblings, Kathryn Kosich, Frank Bettencourt and Rosie Densmore.
Friends are invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Grissom’s Chapel and Mortuary 267 E. Lewelling Blvd. San Lorenzo, CA. The vigil begins at 6:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at St. Felicitas Catholic Church, 1662 Manor Blvd. San Leandro. Virginia will be laid to rest at St. Josephs Cemetery in San Pablo.
