Usha Phadnis entered peacefully into rest in San Ramon, California on August 12, 2020. She was 81 years old.

Born July 21, 1939 in Pune, India to parents Bhikaji and Kamal Kaprekar, Usha worked as a homemaker for many years, after receiving her Bachelor’s degree from University of Mumbai. Her true passions were music and singing – she won multiple awards in music competitions and was an All India Radio Singer. She also loved to cook.

Usha was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Prabhakar Phadnis. She is survived by her children Milind Phadnis and Deepak Phadnis;  grandchildren Shalaka, Shivani, Salil, and Sanika; and many other loving family members and friends.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Grissom’s Chapel & Mortuary.

"Our Usha"

The end of an Era! Usha atya struggled heavily for the last couple of weeks. The "end" was known but was not acceptable by any one of us.

Deepak and Milind have done their best to make her life bearable. I know her since 1951 when she along with Nana and Kamal Tai came to Chalisgaon en route Income Tax Officer's Ajanta and Ellora trip. Since then Usha and family ( Phadnis and Kaprekar) were close to my heart. In the month of February March 2020 then atya visited India. Charu has used excellent thought this afternoon and told me " Baba! There is no doubt that Appa was extremely brilliant and talkative but you mus give full marks to atya for her patience, excel rapport and the great singing". I don't have more to say for" my Usha - Atya; the Lata Mangeshkar of vile Parle East." I must thank Nivi and Medha for their excellent support throughout. Long as live my Usha atya.
