Anthony "Tony" Valdez entered the race on February 14, 1938, and crossed the finish line on September 10, 2023.

Tony will be remembered for his ironclad work ethic, his mechanical genius, and his devotion to his family.

He was the son of Roque and Mary Valdez, both natives of Spain.  Raised on Pippin Street, and loyal to his family from the outset, he was a strong person who had a mighty moral compass from early in his life.

He met a pretty young lady named Olene in 1959, and the two began a courtship that led to a lifetime commitment.

Tony married Olene Olsen on December 24, 1960 in Reno, Nevada.  

Tony spent years on the racetrack, from Vallejo Speedway and San Jose Fair Grounds, running hardtops, midgets, and sprint cars- as a driver, an owner, and a racing enthusiast.  

Outside of the track and work, he spent his time improving the family home, and instilling his children with the values they have passed along to their own.

Tony retired early, and relished his time with his grandchildren.  

Tony and Olene enjoyed their retirement touring in their bus, and cruising.  

He was an avid country music fan, and was a very good dancer. 

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife in 2021.  Tony is remembered with love and affection by his 4 children, Michael, Annamarie, Antonina, and Christina- and his 6 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held for him on November 18, 2023 at Grissoms Mortuary.
