Obituary:
Swatantra Vijay Nandan, lovingly known as Vijay, was born on March 4, 1972, in Suva, Fiji Islands.
He was the beloved son of Pushp Lata and the late Sudha Nand. He was the grandson of Shiu Pal Nandan and Dharam Raji (paternal grandparents), and Ram Kewal and Phul Kuar (maternal grandparents).
Vijay built a life rooted in humility, culture, and selfless service. After moving to the Bay Area, he settled in Newark, California, where he raised his family and worked in the trucking industry as both a business owner and a dedicated truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Reshmi Nandan, and their three children: Arishma, Komal, and Ashish. He is also survived by his three sisters: Amita, Shartana, and Archana.
Vijay was a deeply family-oriented man, always putting his loved ones first. His quiet strength and unwavering support were felt not only by his family but also by everyone whose lives he touched.
He never waited to be asked for help—he simply showed up when people needed him, often without saying a word. Vijay lived by action, not by words.
Humble and proud of his Fijian roots, he carried the values of his upbringing into every part of his life.
He recreated the warmth, respect, and traditions of his childhood home in America, passing those values on to his children.
Vijay's love, presence, and example will be deeply missed, but his legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, the family he built, and the values he embodied every single day.
"For the soul there is never birth nor death.
Nor, having once been, does he ever cease to be. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing, undying and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain" (Bhagavad Gita 2.20).
