Steven H. Platt entered peacefully into rest on August 16, 2019, at the age of 65. He was born June 5, 1954 in Seattle, Washington.
Steven was a highly respected and sought after master builder, and he designed and built boat interiors for over 20 years.
Captain, as he was affectionately called, or Slick Black, as he preferred, was a rugged individualist, expert sailor and accomplished musician. He was a prolific poet, irreverant songwriter and storyteller, and inspiring bandleader and producer. He lived and breathed music and had an exceptional talent for bringing out the best in the people he worked with, with his quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor.
He is survived by many loving friends and will be deeply missed by all, including his band SwampVoodoo and the music community of Soundwave Studios in Oakland, CA.
“Tired and sore from running through life’s maze
I must sit here and rest.
I can’t say I failed for I gave it my best.
This can’t be my movie, nor story or tale,
I think the script ideas went stale…
I feel different now;
I can’t see the past.
My wings are light
and I can fly as high as I once could stand.
Floating free in the sky,
I now know what it’s like to die.”
- excerpts from a poem by Steve Platt, circa 1970-74
