Shirley May Lois, a long time resident of San Lorenzo, entered peacefully into rest in Castro Valley on February 14, 2020. She was 84 years old.
Shirley was born on January 26, 1936 in Oakland, California, the 4th of 5 children to parents Mary and Valentino Bangoli. She married her high school sweetheart, John, on December 6, 1953. Their time together spanned more than six decades, until John passed in 2016. Shirley was a graduate from Castlemont High School. She then devoted herself to the full-time job of raising four kids, which was one of her greatest joys. She later went to work for Mervyn's as a distribution clerk for over 15 years. She loved shopping, cooking, and entertaining, always keeping a tidy home and offering a warm welcome to all, and was a meticulous gardener. Her other passion was gambling – she was known as Lady Luck, and especially loved going to Caesar’s in Tahoe.
Shirley is survived by her four children Louie (Leslie) Lois, Shelley Pack, Mary (Dave) Dunn and John (Colleen) Lois; 10 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, and 1 on the way; sister Becky Mitchell; and many loving nieces, nephews, loving extended family and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband John and three siblings.
Visitation for Shirley will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, February 24, 2020 at Grissom’s Chapel & Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo, CA, with a Vigil to be held at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, also at Grissom’s. Shirley will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
