Saroj Mehrotra peacefully passed away on August 21, 2024 in San Ramon, CA with her family by her side.
Saroj was born on September 28, 1942 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India to parents Krishnapyari Kapoor and Ramgopal Kapoor. The youngest of 6 children, she was adored by her family growing up and given the nickname “Muniya”, meaning “little one”. Growing up, she loved being around her friends and met her childhood sweetheart, Kamal Kishore Mehrotra, who would later be her husband.
After marriage, she was an excellent homemaker, knitting whole sweaters in one night and constantly amazing people with the variety of dishes she could cook. She loved to play carrom, and together with her husband they were the local champions of their neighborhood. She had many creative pursuits within the arts: performing in local plays, playing the tabla, and dancing to Hindi songs.
Throughout her life, she always maintained an appreciation for the finer things: whether that be wearing avant-garde sari designs, fine dining in restaurants, or watching the latest movies. She loved life and all the people that came with it. Even as she aged, she never lost her lively spirit and touched everyone’s hearts with her charisma.
She leaves behind her only surviving sibling, Shakuntala Mehrotra, her daughters Monica Mehrotra and Priyanka Arora, and her grandchildren Gaurang Mehrotra, Rishima Mehrotra, Ria Arora, and Vishakh Arora. She was deeply loved and is missed by all those who knew her.
Care has been entrusted to Grissom's Chapel & Mortuary.
