Ruben Thome

October 28, 1941 - March 28, 2026

Life Legacy

With heartfelt gratitude, we honor and celebrate the extraordinary life of Ruben Thome—a cherished father, grandfather, and husband. Ruben’s story began in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico, where he was born as one of twelve siblings, growing up alongside five brothers and six sisters. At just seventeen, Ruben embarked on a journey to the United States in pursuit of new opportunities, eventually becoming a proud U.S. resident. From a young age, Ruben worked alongside his father as a welder, a craft he continued throughout his adulthood. He built a successful career, first at the Shipyard in San Francisco and later as the proud owner of his own ornament shop in Oakland.

Beyond his dedication to hard work, Ruben had many passions. He was deeply involved in the art of Kenpo Karate, earning his white belt in 1980, progressing to a black belt in 1992, and achieving the rank of 1st degree. Although he did not become sifu, Ruben was a spirited competitor and cherished sparring with his Kenpo family. He also loved Salsa dancing and was happiest when surrounded by friends, family, and good food—everyone who knew him can recall his joyful appetite and zest for life. Even into his senior years, Ruben remained active with morning jogs and prioritized his deep faith in God, attending church regularly.

Ruben’s greatest pride and joy were his daughters, Sonia, Ana, and Laura, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Anthony, Joey, Ariana, and Alyssa. Each one is a true source of happiness and inspiration. Ruben is also survived by Anita; a remarkable woman whose unconditional love and support meant the world to him.

Though Ruben will be deeply missed, their legacy of love, faith, and unwavering strength will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. We celebrate Ruben’s full and beautiful life, and the incredible impact he had on everyone around him.
