Robert Charles (“Bob”) Burkfield passed away peacefully on February 27, 2017 in Palo Alto, California. He was 84 years old.
Born April 2, 1932 in Connecticut to Thomas Edward and Faye Palmer Burkefield. He has now joined his siblings Albert Reed, Vernon Reed and Ralph Burkfield who proceeded him in death. He leaves behind his only sister Thelma Faye Scheberies from Oakland, California. After graduating from Fremont High School. Robert joined the US Marine Corps for three years from February 26, 1951 to February 25, 1954, before being Honorable Discharged. During the Korean War he received Korean Service Medal, United Nation Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He then met the love of his life Geraldeen Mae McKinnon. Together they raised four boys Ryan Charles (deceased), Darryl James, Bruce Thomas (deceased), and Kevin Burkfield. Robert worked for 30+ years as a telephone switchboard engineer for Western Electric Company. When he was not working he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren Tyler, Brittany and Alexandria. If Robert was not working or spending time with his family, you could find him reading, biking, bowling, playing tennis, softball, racquetball, square dancing, latch rug or solving word puzzles. Robert was a devoted and supportive father, a loving father in-law, with a strong faith in God. Compassionate to all he met, with a generous and kind heart.
Visitation for Robert will be Tuesday March 7, 2017 from 9am-11am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00am at Grissom’s Chapel & Mortuary 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo. Robert will be laid to rest at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
