Ricky Ricardo Jr.

November 5, 1945 - November 14, 2020

Life Legacy

On November 14, 2020, Ricky passed away peacefully at his home in San Leandro. He was loved and respected by all that knew him, and he will be truly missed.

Ricky was the son of John and Bertine Ricardo, born in San Leandro, California on November 5, 1945. He graduated in 1963 from Pacific High School in San Leandro. He also attended City College in San Francisco. He served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1967 and honorably discharged in 1968. In 1966, Ricky married his first wife, Alexis Loeffler, with whom he had two children, Kristin and James.

In his early teens, Ricky and his brother Robert started working with their father, John Sr., in the family business. After his Father’s passing, Ricky owned and operated Ricky’s with his wife, Tina. What started out as a Steak House soon became what we all know today as Ricky’s Sports Theatre & Grill. I guess you could say, “Build it and they will come”, and they did … Raider fans from around the world, along with NBA fans, college football fans, boxing and UFC fans, and the list goes on and on.

Ricky was the ultimate Raider fan through and through. In fact, he spent over 100 hours a week at Ricky’s and loved all that goes with it. Some of Ricky’s most memorable moments that stood out were a Sports Illustrated issue that named Ricky’s the #2 Sports Bar in America. He was very proud of that.

Sports Illustrated wrote 5 other articles on Ricky’s throughout the years, but that one was special. Ricky decided to take some of the most notorious dress up Raider fans back to Boston to meet the Owner of “The Fours”, the #1 Sports Bar in America. After hours of partying, they decided to go to Fenway Park and a good time was had by all.

Ricky was honored with many awards over the years. Just to name a few were Best Food in the East Bay and Top 100 Places to See Before You Die. You could say that Ricky’s Sports Theatre & Grill put San Leandro on the map!
