Life Legacy

Michael was born and raised in Hayward, California of proud Spanish heritage.  He passed peacefully on March 16, 2019 at the age of 67.

He was a graduate of Sunset High School where he played on the football and wrestling team and had many friends and fond memories.

He enjoyed NASCAR racing and went to the race in Las Vegas and Sonoma Valley each year.  His dream was to go to the Daytona 500 in Florida.  He also enjoyed going to the Hot August Nights classic car show in Reno.  I swear you could pick him out of a crowd - just look for the loudest Hawaiian shirt and that was him.

He loved horse racing and watched the race simulcasts from Bay Meadows and Golden Gate Fields.  He never missed the Kentucky Derby or any of the Triple Crown races.  He enjoyed talking to jockey’s, trainers and horse owners to learn the finer points of the sport.  I swear half of Bay Meadows track personnel filtered through our home at one time or another before they closed.

We recently discovered cruises and he fell in love with them.  He said “there’s nothing better.  You unpack once, visit 4 islands, have great service, food and entertainment.  Who could ask for anything more.”  He was looking forward to planning our next trip to the Caribbean.

Lastly, he was passionate over football and baseball.  He was a devoted Oakland Raiders and Los Angeles Dodgers fan.  He always joked he was brainwashed by his father at a young age against the local Bay Area teams.   He was a Raiders Season Ticket holder until this year and only gave it up because they are moving to Las Vegas.

Michael was witty, smart, handsome, athletic, had a great sense of humor and was a romantic.  He loved music, dancing, good food (especially at Gordon Ramsay’s Steak House in Las Vegas), and all things that make you smile.  He is, and will always be, deeply missed by all who knew him.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Bonnie Arribas, daughter Angela, son Howard, 4 grandchildren, brother Alan and his wife Kelly and many, many friends.

Visitation for Michael will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, March 25, 2019, at Grissom’s Chapel and Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo.  The Vigil service will be held at 6:30 PM.
