Life Legacy

Michael Sean Bystedt

1975 – 2025

Michael “Mike, Mikey” Bystedt was kind and loving and generous. He helped anyone and everyone, friends and/or strangers alike. If someone needed to talk, Mike listened. If someone needed help with a task, he showed up and pitched in. Mike gave with no expectations of anything in return. He was dedicated to his family, to his friends and to his work. Mike passed away unexpectedly on February 18, 2025, at the age of 49. He will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him.

Michael Sean Bystedt was born on June, 11, 1975, to Frederick J. Bystedt and Mary L. Bystedt. He entered the world in the company of his twin brother, Steven Eric Bystedt, who were born at San Leandro Memorial Hospital in San Leandro, California.

Mike attended Burbank Preschool, Jefferson Elementary School, Bancroft Middle School and San Leandro High School. Mike graduated from California State University at Chico with a degree in Computer Science. He worked as a software developer for high tech at Cadence, Oracle and, more recently, at Amazon. He lived the majority of his life in San Leandro.

Mike married Stacy Lyn Brzostowski in 2003. They met at Bancroft Middle School and they attended California State University at Chico together. They had two children, Wyatt Steven Bystedt and William Frederick Bystedt.

Mike is survived by Stacy Bystedt, his children, Wyatt Bystedt and William Bystedt, his brother, Steven Bystedt, his sister, Stephanie Fisher and his mother, Mary Bystedt. He is also survived by Schawanna Boyd, his partner of many years who he called “his Angel.” Mike was pre-deceased by his father, Frederick J. Bystedt.

Mike deeply cherished his relationships with his children, as well as the friendships he accumulated throughout his life. From friends at Burbank Preschool, to Manor Swim Club, to Boy Scouts, to First Presbyterian Church in San Leandro, to San Leandro High School Band, to the San Leandro High School Wrestling Team, to the San Leandro High School Swim Team, and to his work colleagues in multiple industries. Mike considered every friend to be his family.

Mike loved fishing and camping and making music with his friends and family. He fished the streams, rivers, lakes and the seashore of California, as well as Kachemak Bay in Alaska. He played music throughout his lifetime and he encouraged his children in this endeavor as well. He will remain in our hearts with every good song we hear, every fishing line we cast and every moment we share with the people we love.
