M. Magdalena (Maggie) Renteria, 84, of Castro Valley, CA, died on November 19, 2019 in San Leandro, CA.

Maggie is survived by two sons, John of Bayside CA and Edward of Livermore CA, daughters in law, Laurie and Sheri, and 7 grandchildren: Jason, Caitlin, Sarah, Jack, Jake, Lola, Jenna and brother Mathew of San Leandro CA.

Maggie is preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, brothers, Rudy, Louis, Jesse, John, and her parents, Mateo and Magdalena.

Maggie was born on January 5th 1935 in El Paso, TX to Mateo and Magdalena Grajeda. Her family moved to California later. Maggie graduated in 1953 from Holy Names High School in Oakland. She married Alfred Renteria on June 28, 1958 at Sacred Heart Church in Oakland, CA. After raising her two sons she worked 18 years as an Attendance Secretary for the Oakland Public School District. Maggie volunteered her time coaching CYO basketball and volleyball. She was also active in the St Lawrence O'Toole Church and Mothers Club.

Maggie was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Most of all she loved spoiling her grandchildren She enjoyed spending time in Tuolumne County with Al and especially the last 20 years relaxing at the family cabin in Twain Harte.

The Renteria family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of the All Saints Acute Care Facility in San Leandro, CA.

Visitation for Magdalena will be held from 9:00 - 9:30 AM on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Grissom's Chapel & Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo, with Mass to begin at 10:00 AM at St. John's Catholic Church, 264 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo, with a reception to follow at the Marina Community Center 15301 Wicks Blvd San Leandro.
