Marlene L. Elmore passed away April 28th, 2026, with her loving sons by her side at the age of 90.

She was born July 14th, 1935, to Anthony and Margaret Berry. Marlene was raised in the Bay Area.

When she was 11 years old, she and her sister Barbara helped their father with 26 dogs he had at his pet store in San Francisco. Then a few years later, her father opened a pet store in Hayward, where her love for pets grew.

She graduated from elementary school in San Lorenzo, in June of 1949, after which she attended San Lorenzo High School as an Honor Roll student.

Marlene then met Gary Elmore while working at her father’s pet store. They fell in love and were married June 11th, 1954 in San Lorenzo.

Marlene was an exemplary mother figure and human being. She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her family and friends.

Throughout her life she continued to enjoy a wide variety of pets, from snakes, lizards, fish, dogs, cats, and even a skunk named “Pew-Pew.” Most of all, she really enjoyed camping in the mountains with her family.

Marlene is survived by her children Kim, Gary Jr., Tracy, Granddaughter Alexandria Elmore, Great Granddaughters Nevaeh and Savannah, Grandson Steven Baldwin and his wife Heather, and Great Grandchildren Shay and Shayla Baldwin.

Marlene passed away peacefully at Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley, under hospice care.
