Marie Culwell passed away peacefully April 24, 2017 in San Leandro, California.  She was 89 years old.

Marie was born in North Bergen, New Jersey to Paul and Kathleen Guise.  Both her parents and her sister Betty Ehlers preceded her in death.  Marie leaves behind her children Kathy, Cliff and Christopher. Her nephews Jim Ehlers, Walt Ehlers, their families and a daughter-in-law Michelle Culwell.  Marie worked as a Director of Medical Records at Laurel Grove Hospital from 1960-1988. Marie was a dedicated animal shelter volunteer at the Friends of Fesco Animal Shelter for 25 years.  She loved bird watching, the environment and her church family at United Methodist Church of Castro Valley.  Marie was a very special and giving person, she would take care of everyone else before herself.  Never thought twice of saying “No,” when it came to helping friends and family.  A quote Marie would always say and love to leave you with, “There are no bad dogs.”
