Life Legacy

Maria Cristina Portugal Cabatu, also known as Marna by her family, friends and coworkers, entered peacefully into eternal rest on June 15, 2020, at the age of 51. Marna, resident of Hayward, California, was born on November 4, 1968 in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. She graduated elementary at East Central School year 1975-81, High School at St. Mary's College 1981-1985; also where she completed her Bachelor of Science in Education 1985-1989. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from 1990-1994 at University of Northern Philippines.

Marna started as a high school teacher at St. Mary's College where she graduated from. As a nurse, she was a staff nurse and became the acting chief nurse at Central Ilocos Sur District Hospital, Narvacan, Ilocos Sur. She migrated to the United States in 2003 and worked as a caregiver until 2005. She passed her Licensed Vocational and Registered Nurse Examinations in 2005, and worked at St. Therese Nursing Home from 2005-2007. Her last place of work was at Hayward Healthcare and Wellness Center where she was from 2007 until her hospitalization. When the Hayward Healthcare Director of Nursing was promoted, she courageously accepted the challenge to be the Director of Nursing for about a year and a half. She was the Director of Nursing when Hayward Healthcare received the zero deficiency survey. She stepped down from this position when she was diagnosed with cancer. She was in remission and continued doing what she loved to do, being a Nurse as the PM supervisor.

Marna's strong work ethic was greatly admired by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her. There was no dull moment with her outside of work. She enjoyed playing table tennis, Zumba, traveling, volunteering and meeting friends and families. She touched the lives of many with her strong spirit and generosity, always willing to volunteer and help, and will be deeply missed.

Marna is survived by her two brothers, Amante P. Cabatu and Arnel Alberto Cabatu. she is the youngest among her siblings.

Her friendship and impact to our lives will never be forgotten. We will be forever grateful to our Lord for giving her to us. May Marna rest in peace with Our Lord Jesus Christ.
