Lorraine A. Silva

February 20, 1935 - June 15, 2021

Life Legacy

Lorraine Agnes Silva passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2021, surrounded by those she loved. She is survived by George, her loving husband of 63 years; her son Darryl Silva (Nancy) and daughter Sharon Rettig (Russ); her beloved grandchildren Laura and Eric Silva; her dear brother Woody Souza (Mary); and many nieces, nephews and cousins that she loved deeply.

Lorraine was the youngest child born to Frank and Agnes Souza at Queens Hospital on the island of Oahu on February 20, 1935. She spent her first 16 years in Hawaii and had many wonderful tales of growing up in the islands. She was six when Pearl Harbor was bombed and has memories of evacuating to a cave and camouflaging the house in case of future attacks. Her love of all things Hawaiian stayed with her until the very end. She attended Punahou School before her family moved to California in 1950. She finished High School at Oakland High and started work as a teller at Bank of America.

Lorraine met George, the love of her life in 1955, and after a wonderful courtship, they married in 1957. They moved to San Lorenzo in 1958 when starting their family, and then to Danville in 1995. Lorraine started work at Macy’s in 1979, which became her second home. She loved working with her customers and co-workers. She eventually retired in 2013 at age 78.

Lorraine was a member of the Dublin San Ramon Women’s Club and enjoyed many of their activities, most recently participating in Bingo via Zoom during the Covid lockdown. Lorraine and George loved to travel and took many trips to Hawaii and Europe as well as numerous cruises. Their favorite travel partners were Ed and Branca McDonald. She and George took part in many of the Walnut Creek Seniors activities in the Bay Area and beyond. One of her last trips was a lifetime highlight – going to Memphis to visit Graceland. Lorraine had a strong love for her family and friends. She and George enjoyed hosting a Christmas party that brought friends and family together for over 50 years. She enjoyed her life up until the very end, connecting with family through weekly Zoom calls and enjoying visits from her kids and grandkids. Being a Grandmother was a special joy for her.

Our family thanks Kaiser Hospice for their wonderful care during the last few months of her life. A Celebration of Life is being planned. Donations in Lorraine’s memory can be made to: Gretta Foundation: grettafoundation.org or a charity of your choice.
