Lilia Sosa Jacinto
Born 5/25/22 in Boac, Marinduque, Philippines
Died 5/9/17 in Oakland, CA
Mom (also known as Lola or Manang Lil) of Boac, Marinduque, was married to Isidor Jacinto (deceased 1972) and had four children: Cecilia (Jim Sylves), Robert (Laura), Diana (Abe Millado) and Richard (Rhonda Jones); five grandchildren – Lora (Dale), Erin (Jay), Jamie (Jason), Grace and Matthew and one great grandchild - Carson. She is also survived by her step grandchild, Lauren, and great grandchildren, Evan, and Khaleesi. She was the matriarch of the very large Sosa family, who reside in the Philippines, US and other countries around the world.
Our mother is our role model for living a blessed and fulfilled life devoted to family. She was the original feminist, long before the term was popular. She attended college in the Philippines, but her studies were interrupted by WWII. Mom worked outside the home out of necessity due to our father’s long illness, at a time when most wives and mothers were able to stay at home. She was a pioneer starting as a bookkeeper and progressing to a computer operator when huge IBM machines took up entire rooms.
Mom became a widow at age 50, when her youngest was only 10 years old, and raised four happy and successful children. At that time, we probably all took her for granted, but as adults we realize what strength of character she possessed. Independent to the end, in her mid-80s she decided to move into an assisted living facility and put her house up for sale – and then told her children!
Although she slowed down a bit in her final years, she had a lifetime of adventures that few people experience: surviving in the Philippines during war time, immigrating to the US after WWII, travels to the Holy Land and other continents, country western line dancing and hot air ballooning (her request for her 85th birthday).
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 18, 2017 from 2 to 8 pm at Grissom's Chapel & Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo. The vigil service begins at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, May 19, 2017 at St. John's Catholic Church, 264 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo. Rest in Peace to our wonderful Mom.
