LaVerle Booker was born September 21st,1950 to the late Mr. Willie Lee and Mrs. Margaret Parsee, a steel mill engineer and a homemaker in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. One of nine children, she grew up on Cliff Street, where she was given the nickname “Bummy” and graduated from Scott High School.

Bummy married Mr. Willie Ray Booker of Winnfield, Louisiana and moved to Oakland, California in 1970 where she began her family and career. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at Mt. Carmel Church and was an active member of Acts Full Gospel Church for more than 40 years, serving on many ministries. Anyone who knew Bummy knew her spirited laugh, quick wit, relentless nature, loving heart and absolute faith in God.

Bummy transitioned to her heavenly home on September 15st, 2022

She is survived by her husband Willie Ray, children LaVerle S Booker, Elijah Eric Ray and Willie Joshua Booker. Her Granddaughters LaVasha, Desire, Christian, Naudiah, Zakia, and Azariya. Grandson Elijah Jr. and great-grandsons Israel and Zion. Sibling to the late Nikki Morgan, Dr Beverly Riviera, Jerome, Eugene, Eric, Camille and Douglas Parsee.

Mother-in-law, aunt, cousin, friend to many and undoubtedly a mighty spiritual leader with a strong ministry of faith and love.

There is no doubt Bummy knew who she was and whose she was. Her life’s work and faith paralleled the love of God, her family and sharing the goodness therein. Her family celebrates her life.
