Larry Ray Johnson entered peacefully into rest in Oakland, California on March 28, 2020. He was 65 years old.

Born November 20, 1954 in Sioux City, Iowa to parents Eugene and Beverly Johnson, Larry graduated from Tennyson High School in 1973. Following graduation, he served in the US Marine Corps for 12 years. He went on to work in security and construction for over 30 years, where he received numerous job well done awards and medals for his dedication and work. He loved going to the San Leandro Marina with his wife Phyllis, sitting on his front porch people watching, talking about his kids, and his dog, Snookie.

Larry is survived by his wife of 27 years, Phyllis Johnson; children Karl Johnson and Cathy Johnson, both of Abilene, Texas; step daughters Kelly Garcia  (Jim) of Modesto and Kathy Tone (Jimmy) of San Leandro; grandchildren Essence Johnson and Karl Johnson Jr., both of Abilene; and step grandchildren Joseph, Alexis, Sierra, Cassandra, Brandon, Noah, Jesse and Jacey. He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Beverly; and siblings Joey Johnson, Charlotte Johnson, and Mary Johnson.

There are no services planned at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted to Grissom’s Chapel & Mortuary.
