Larry Kenneth Powell was born to Richard and Zelma Powell in Kelso, Washington, the third of what would be four sons. He was raised on the Northern California coast, where his father worked as a lighthouse keeper. At seventeen, Larry graduated from high school early and enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving as a Gunners Mate in the South Pacific. He was proud to be one of four brothers to serve honorably in World War II.
Following the war, he met Patricia Forquer. Larry and Pat married in 1948 and raised their seven children in San Lorenzo. The family were parishioners of St. John the Baptist and St Joachim churches, where Larry was a member of the Holy Names Society participating in church activities and the parish Boy Scout troop. Larry spent his working career as a Union warehouseman. After retiring Larry devoted himself to travel in the U.S., researching his family history, and playing bridge.
Larry is remembered by his family as a man of great integrity, with a strong sense of fairness and a great love of music. He was preceded in death by his brothers Richard, Robert, and Lynn, and by his wives Patricia, Lois and Jewell. He is survived by his children Brian, Denise, Daniel, Anne Marie Foley, Thomas, Joan (and spouse Adam) Espicha, Monica (and spouse David) Walker, and step-daughters Barbara and Terry, and grandchildren Molly, Rhiannon, Perry, Sean, Rose, Amy, Paige, Taylor and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the staff of St Regis Retirement Center for their wonderful care and kindness.
