Larry Charles Guess II

June 9, 1981 - March 30, 2023

Life Legacy

Larry Charles Guess II was born on June 9, 1981 in Berkeley CA to the proud and eagerly awaiting parents Larry and Lovetta Guess. Larry was a beautiful baby and "Chunky," he brought so much happiness to his parents. Larry was a busy toddler – his mom describes him as busy and always getting into something. Larry was a huge Winnie the Pooh fanatic, his mother decorated his room in Winnie the Pooh everything. It was also where Larry inherited one of his many nicknames "Pooh Nooh."

Larry received his general education in the Oakland Public School District, later graduating from Fremont High school – GO TIGERS!!! He later enrolled in Lower Columbia College in Longview, Washington. Larry would often return to "the town" (Home) to visit family and friends. Whenever Larry had a visit scheduled EVERYONE knew, he would start his phone calls weeks in advance letting his people know their couch would be· a part of his tour as well as stopping by 82nd and Birch (The Block) to kick it with the fellas. Larry was welcomed by all with his laid back personality and easy going demeanor, family and friends too were anxious for his arrival. Later in life Larry relocated to Portland, Oregon but would visit "the town" as often as he could.

Larry's mother made sure he had a strong foundation in Jesus Christ, he was brought up under some of the Bay Area's best preachers and teachers of the gospel. Larry was baptized at a very early age at Center of Hope Community Church (Bishop E.C. Reems) and later joined Love Center Ministries (Bishop Walter Hawkins). Larry and his family later joined City of Refuge UCC under the leadership of Bishop Yvette Flunder. Although Larry had relocated to Oregon, he would often remind everyone that City of Refuge was his home.

Larry is described as a very good child, respectful and full of life. Growing up Larry was involved in every sport imaginable, but would later realize his love for the court would pave an amazing way for him. Larry practiced in many different gyms – Bushrod and Brookfield Parks and Rec, just to name a few. Following in the footsteps of his father, Larry's years of dedication to his love for basketball and community would assist him in taking his team (Fremont Tigers) to the State of California Basketball Championship in 1999, even having an article with his photo featured in the Oakland Tribune naming him "The Best of the Best". It is on the court and the gym where Larry received yet two more nicknames: "Coach" & "LG." We can truly say Larry was a coach on and off the court. Larry lived life by his terms and though at times odds were stacked against him he would not allow himself to be defeated.

Larry later met and married Tiffany Wolf- Guess, and to this union Larry discovered yet another amazing love, his daughter Neveah. She was the apple of his eye and he enjoyed spending time with her whenever he could. Recently Larry was blessed with yet another blessing: he learned he had another daughter named Grace. Although Larry was not able to meet Grace in person, they did make it a point to FaceTime when they could. Larry made sure Grace too knew he loved her. Larry enjoyed being a father and his Legacy will continue on in his daughters and family.

Larry loved sports, especially his home teams Golden State Warriors, Oakland Raiders, and of course his alma mater the Fremont Tigers. Larry also had a special team in which he followed only because of one team player (Damien Lillard-Point Guard) that was special to him: The Portland Trail Blazers.

Larry Charles Guess II will continue to live in our hearts and minds, and to all that loved and knew him he will forever be "THE BEST OF THE BEST.”
