Julius Magda, age 79, passed away on Thursday, November 10, 2016 in San Leandro, CA. Mr. Magda was born May 3, 1937 in Clifton, NJ, the son of the late Edward and the late Nellie (Rendzia) Magda, and brother of the late Robert Magda. He was married to Jeanette Rivenburg, also of Clifton, for 27 years. He worked for Western Union and at Givaudan Corp. in Clifton, N.J. prior to or while attending college. He graduated with honors from Montclair State Teachers' College in 1972, receiving a Bachelor's degree, majoring in English and Philosophy. He taught elementary or middle school at St. Mary's School of the Assumption in Hackettestown, NJ, at Trinity Episcopal School in Midland, TX; at St. Patrick's School in Jersey City, NJ; at St. Mary's School in Austin, TX; at St. Cecilia's School in San Antonio, TX; and at St. Therese's School in Paterson, NJ. He retired from teaching in 1989, and most recently resided at Cambrian Center in San Jose, CA.
Julius enjoyed walking in the outdoors, especially while collecting rocks, minerals, fossils, seashells, or Native American artifacts. He also enjoyed fishing, photography, basketball, and bowling, and was a lifelong Cardinal baseball and Celtics basketball fan.
Mr. Magda is survived by his son Darren Magda and his partner Nathalie Brophy, his son Jaye Magda and his wife Christine Magda, and their children Faith and Wesley.
Visiting hours will be Saturday, November 19, 2016 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Grissom’s Chapel & Mortuary in San Lorenzo, CA.
Private cremation will follow.
