John Lawrence Miguel, known also to family and friends as Larry, passed away December 5, 2018 at the age of 73. He was born November 1, 1945 in San Francisco, CA to parents Lawrence and Florence Miguel. 

John is survived by his wife, Alice Miguel. They met at Clausen House in the early 80s. She remembers thinking “He’s a handsome man!” And that was that – they were married August 17, 2018, for a total of 34 years. 

John liked his job and going to the Clausen House day program.  He had many friends there.  In addition, he had many friends in the community including at Whole Foods and 7-11 in Oakland.

John loved Sunday brunches at Scott’s Seafood, going out to dinner (actually breakfast, lunch, AND dinner), and going to BBQ picnics with the day program residents.  He loved cooking, loading the dishwasher, and especially going for walks around the neighborhood with Alice. 

He loved dancing, going to casinos, going on cruises, and all parties!  His favorite parties were Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and Valentine’s Day.  He loved watching the Warriors, listening to music on his CD player – mostly Christmas music and Elvis – and old cars.  He loved going shopping to buy each other gifts and spending Christmas at home with Alice.

He liked taking Alice to Southland mall, Target, and grocery shopping.  He loved playing games on the iPad and Fenton’s ice creamery (small hot fudge sundaes were his favorite) and Starbucks.  Blue was his favorite color and he had quite a collection of hats!  His favorite foods were ground turkey spaghetti, pie, and ice cream. 

Alice shares: “The nicest things he did for me were to kiss me, hug me, help me, and go shopping to buy me gifts.  We loved each other with all our hearts and I will miss him terribly!”

A Memorial Service for John will be held on Thursday, December 20th, at 1:00 PM at The Clausen House Recreation Center, 650 Grand Ave., Oakland, CA.
