It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our father, John Elizondo, age 96. John was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 26, 1921. By age 18, he had joined the Navy and was stationed at Alameda Naval Air Station during WWII. While in the Navy he met and married his wife of 68 years Mary (Ramirez) who passed away in 2012.
John was a loving father to his three children, Patricia Wilson (Richard) of Fremont, Monica Badger (Bruce-deceased) of Sparks, Nevada and Ronald Elizondo (Chris) of Austin, Texas. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Kristina, Lisa, Richie, Eric, Michael (Ellen), Jennifer (Ben), Veronica (Ben), Nicole (David), Alexandria (Brandon) and Ronnie. He was also blessed with 12 great grandchildren. John is survived by his cherished sister, Olga Perez of San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Margarita Elizondo, his brothers Albert, Oscar, Sonny, and sisters Beatrice and Consuelo. He will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, and family members.
John’s career spanned over 50 years as a manager of auto body repair in new car dealerships in both Hayward and San Francisco. John was a devoted member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for 70 years. He loved every aspect of this charitable service organization and he and Mary devoted many years making a difference. John was a devoted member of Alameda Aerie# 1076, while also supporting Eden Aerie #1139 (Hayward). One of his highest achievements was holding the office of State President of the F.O.E. for 1983-1984. He made many life long and devoted friends that he held dear to his heart. In his later years he enjoyed attending the monthly luncheon and bingo functions hosted by the Hayward #1139 Auxiliary.
John and Mary were devoted to their Christian faith and were parishioners of St. John’s Catholic Church for more than 62 years. John loved the Ashland community in San Lorenzo where he lived since 1950 and will be missed by many neighbors and friends.
Friends are invited to attend the visitation on Monday, March 19, 2018 from 4:00PM - 8:00PM with a vigil beginning at 6:00PM at Grissom's Chapel and Mortuary 267 E. Lewelling Blvd. San Lorenzo, CA 94580. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at 10:00AM at St. John’s Catholic Church also in San Lorenzo and across the street from Grissom’s Mortuary. John will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation be made to John’s favorite charities, The A-T Children’s Project (ATCP.org), St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and the City of Hope.
