John D. Mena entered peacefully into rest at home in Hayward, California on June 2, 2019. He was 85 years old.
Born December 28, 1933 in Ventura, California to parents Petra Garcia and John Mena, John worked in maintenance at Sandia National Laboratories for 30 years and International Harvester for 22 years after a brief time in the Air Force. He loved to ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle and work. Most importantly, he was the cornerstone of his family and a loving "Papa" to all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly and dearly missed.
John is survived by his children John R. Mena (Alicia), Laurie Mena Tenorio (Joe), Lisa Mena Martinez (Jose) and stepdaughter Patricia Strom; grandchildren Danielle Vigil, Allen Mena, JJ Tenorio, Melissa Tenorio, Rachel Tenorio, Joey Mena, Brianna Martinez, Ben Martinez, Christina Lozano, Raymond Mena, Jessica Gallegos, Kimberly Ashworth, and Gina Marie Brown; great-grandchildren Anhelica, Adrianna, Anastasia, Eddie, Noah, Javier, Peter, Alexis, Raymond, Nathaniel, Cecilia, Allen, Kalia, Jaxon, Rachel, Matthew, Selena, Scott, Alyss, and Neveah; and siblings Paul Mena and Raymond Mena. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years Marilyn Mena (December 24, 2017); son Edward Mena; granddaughter Antonette Isaacson; and siblings Sally Orante, Wilma Duarte, and half brother Charles.
Visitation for John will be held from 12:00 - 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Grissom's Chapel & Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo, CA. Services will follow, at 1:00 PM, also at Grissom's.
