With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved patriarch, Joe J. Martinez, who left this world peacefully on March 20, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Born on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1942, in Taos, New Mexico, Joe moved to California in 1959 with his mother and sister to reunite with his brothers. He attended Fremont High School, where he met the love of his life, Isabel C. Carrillo. After graduating in 1961, he pursued his passion for craftsmanship at Laney College in Oakland, and thereafter earned his Journeyman status in the Int’l Association of Machinists & Aerospace Union. His dedication and skill led him to a remarkable 50-year career at George M. Martin Co. in Emeryville Ca., where he was deeply admired, ultimately retiring as Plant Supervisor.
Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and confidant. His marriage to Isabel was a testament to enduring love, spanning 60 years—an inspiring story of commitment and partnership. Together, they built a home in Dublin, CA, where they raised their children and created a foundation of love and strong family values. Joe was a familiar and beloved presence in his community, often seen on his daily walks—many of which led to his favorite spots, Johnny’s Donuts and Caspers Hot Dog.
He lived with patience, respect, kindness, and an unwavering sense of calm. A man of quiet strength, he was a great listener who loved and accepted others unconditionally. To his family, he was their rock—the best husband, father and grandfather they could have asked for.
Joe’s love for music was a defining part of his life. An accomplished guitarist, he found joy in playing and inspired many to pick up the instrument, especially cherishing the moments spent making music with his son and grandsons. Yet, his greatest joy was simply being with his family. He adored his five grandsons and took immense pride in them, finding light and laughter in their presence.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Simon G. Martinez and Lupita R. Romero; his brothers, Manuel C. Martinez and Bill G. Martinez. He is survived by his sister, Loretta Robinette; his beloved wife, Isabel Carmen; his son, Joseph John, daughter-in-law, Lynn Marie; grandsons, Joseph Simon, Richard Michael, and Jacob Thomas; his daughter, Carla Diane, son-in-law, Ruben Hernandez; grandsons, Ruben Rafael and Dominic Jose; and his daughters, Yvette Marie & Kari Teresa. And many nephews & nieces.
Joe’s kindness, wisdom, and love will remain in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him. He was, and always will be, the foundation of his family.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Friday, May 2nd, 2025 at 4pm with a Mass at St. Raymond's Catholic Church, 11555 Shannon Ave. Dublin CA, immediately followed by a walk at Shannon Park and reception at Shannon Community Center.
