Joao Goncales Valim entered peacefully into rest at home in San Lorenzo, California, on May 9, 2019. He was 80 years old.

Born March 6, 1939 in Pico Azores, Portugal to parents João and Irondina Goncalves, Joao worked for 26 years as a machine operator at a pencil factory – fábrica de lapis – in San Leandro, CA.

Joao is survived by his wife of 38 years, Connie Valim, and siblings Manuel (Sacramento), José (San Joaquin Valley), Teresa (Pico-Azores), and Mercedes (Pico-Azores). He was preceded in death by his brother Tomé.

Visitation for Joao will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday, May 13, 2019, at Grissom’s Chapel & Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo, CA, with a Rosary to be held at 6:30 PM. Mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 264 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo, CA. Following services, Joao will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, CA.
