Janet Sotomayor Montalvo passed away Sunday, September 10th after many years of health and repertory distress issues. Janet was born January 12, 1933 in New York. Graduating from a local school, she found herself in the restaurant field as well as having experience in soldering and calibrating on an assembly line.  Soon after, she met a famous man who swept her off her feet by the way he would sing to her.  Instantly, “Jenny”, as Jose Montalvo would call her knew he was the one.  Now married with 3 kids in tow, they drove from the east coast to the west coast and chose San Lorenzo to be their home for the next 45 years.

Janet became a CNA at San Leandro Hospital for 17 years.  In this time frame, Janet built her pride and self-esteem knowing that her caring and tending ways allowed to the sick to get better and the weak to become stronger.  In her early 60s, due to health issues, Janet had to retire.  Janet became a member at a local church and soon joined the choir to sing to the heavens above.  She then taught the children’s choir.  She enjoyed arts and crafts, crocheting, cooking and dog breeding.

Janet is survived by her devoted children, Angel & Paula Gonzales, Belinda & Jim Troup, Dorinda & Isabel Ochoa and Jose & Leilani Montalvo; grandchildren, Ralph, Nicole, Joey H., Lisa, Ricky, Ariel, Marco, Emily, Nick, Reylan and Justin; great grandchildren, Enrique, Zoriya, Cisco, Roman, Jordon, Jonathan, Gilberto Jr., Gavin, Desirea, Delilah and Marco Jr., Charlotte; siblings, Victor Sotomayor, Johnny Sotomayor and Rafaela Santos; many loving extended family and cherished friends. 

Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Janet’s life from 4 pm to 8 pm on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Grissom’s Chapel & Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo.
