Isabel Duruin Savellano, known by family and friends as “Mamang”, “Mommy” or “Ambol” entered peacefully into rest in Hayward on September 26, 2017. She was 83 years old.
Isabel, the youngest of seven children, was born to proud parents Manuela and Federico on November 26, 1933 in the Philippines. While there she matriculated through school and eventually attended the University of the Philippines-PGH School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse; enjoying a very rewarding 35 years in the field of nursing; culminating when she received the Most Outstanding Public Health Nurse and the National Community Service Award, respectively.
Her love for her community was never more apparent by her serving as Public Health Nurse/Midwife, assisting mothers in the childbirth of over one thousand babies and for serving as an Operation Brotherhood Nurse in Laos during the Vietnam War. She is a member of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association and the Mekong Circle as she believed in helping the next generation be more successful than she. In addition to her talents as a nurse, she enjoyed sewing, gardening and reading.
She leaves to mourn her passing, Leonardo Savellano, her husband of 60 years, her three children Federico “Freddie” Savellano, Juliet Savellano-Espinosa, and Helen “Mahal” Savellano; grandchildren John-Eryll “Bejay”, Arlene Fatima “Tikkay”, Ailene Farida “Ting-Ting”, Ana Loraine “Bibi”, Aleah Francine “Baba”, Dian Francis “Dino”, Kristina Marie and Aaron Fred; great-grandchildren Andrei Yuan “Azul” and Eryanne-Malia; one sister Petra.
Her siblings Iluminada, Vicente, Jose, Pedro and Eufronia and a grandson John-Frederick (Jeff) preceded her in death.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 2:00P.M. – 8:00 P.M., with a vigil beginning at 7:00 P.M. at Grissom’s Chapel and Mortuary 267 E. Lewelling Blvd. San Lorenzo, California. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 beginning at 10:30 A.M at Our Lady of Good Counsel 2500 Bermuda Ave, San Leandro, California.
