Gordon
G was born in a small town called Mirfield,in Yorkshire, in England, on November 4th 1931.
His poor but happy life came to a tragic halt when his mother, Helena, passed in 1936. His beloved sister Kathleen and G were abandoned miserable life with their paternal grandmother.
G also has a Step Brother, Peter, and Step Sisters Sheila and Margaret. They will be gathered together to watch this Service and to remember him.
From an early age G was planning a better life, in America.
He was always keen to be fit and active. He was a well known athlete and Boxer. He joined the British army when he was 18 and served in Egypt; he left on assisted package, for Canada, in 1953; and moved to America three years later.
Once again G joined the Armed Forces. He made many lifelong friends. He took his sporting activities very seriously and was proud of his sporting prowess up until his passing.
G kept in touch by mail with family in the UK. Not a great letter writer , Kathleen was always pleased to hear from him, and talked often and fondly of her baby brother.
He returned to visit family and friends in the UK, if he could afford to do so. The last occasion being to celebrate his fathers 100 birthday. Kathleen and her daughter, Hilary, visited San Francisco in 2017 and spent some happy time with G. He was clearly popular with friends and neighbours.
G was a Painter and Decorator. He was a keen Union supporter. He had a Social consciousness. He helped others. He had a strong sense of right and wrong and fairness. His politics reflected this.
G tried many sporting activities, boxing, running, jogging, sky diving, the gym was his passion, along with the great outdoors, hunting shooting, camping and climbing.
The circumstances of G death has meant that Hilary and her husband, John, have spent time talking to a number of institutions in the US, on behalf of Kathleen. Folks have been kind and helpful and we are most grateful for the ongoing support.
G was “a nice guy”. It was a privilege to have known him and we will all, I am sure, remember his big smile.
With all our love
Kathleen, Hilary, John, Peter, Sheila, Margaret .
