George A. Silva

June 26, 1932 - November 11, 2021

Life Legacy

George Anthony Silva passed away November 11, 2021 peacefully during a short hospital stay. George is survived by his son Darryl Silva (Nancy) and daughter Sharon Rettig (Russ) and his beloved grandchildren Laura and Eric Silva, as well as many nieces and nephews. George lost the love of his life, his wife Lorraine, just five short months prior to his passing.

George was born June 26, 1932 in Oakland, CA to Arthur and Maria Silva, the sixth of seven children. His siblings, Helen Amaro, Anthony Silva, Roy Silva, Mary Porep, Eleanor Muller and Branca McDonald, all preceded him. After graduating from Fremont High School in Oakland in 1951, George joined the Marine Crops and served from 1952 to 1955 where he achieved the rank of sergeant and was stationed in Korea as an MP in the demilitarized zone in the months following the cease fire. After returning home, George met Lorraine in 1955 and after a wonderful courtship, they married in 1957. They moved to San Lorenzo where they raised their two children. George had joined Allied Painters after serving in the Marines and worked alongside his brother Tony as a Union Painter for over 43 years. In 1995, George and Lorraine moved to Danville where they were surrounded by a wonderful circle of friends.

In retirement, George and Lorraine enjoyed travel and saw much of Europe and the United States. They also had a special love for Kauai. George loved baseball and in his retirement, he played in the Walnut Creek Senior Softball league, The Creakers. He had many enjoyable afternoons spent on the ball field.

George was a family man, a man of his word. He instilled strong values in his children, was a proud Grandfather, but most of all, he was a devoted husband to Lorraine, his wife of over 63 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 23, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 7421 Amarillo Road, Dublin, CA. A lunch reception will follow the service.
