Heaven gained another angel, Evelyn Lievre, who passed away peacefully October 26th, 2017 at the age of 93. She will be missed dearly by her son Chet II, daughter-in-law Denise, her five grandchildren Chet III, Emily, Alyssa, Julia, and Nicholas, and great-grandchild Skyler. She will be reunited with her husband Chet, daughter Kathleen, and brother Al.
Growing up in Oakland, she attended local grammar schools and Fremont High School. She furthered her education at Merritt Business College while employed by Pacific Tel in San Francisco. After her husband Chet’s honorable discharge from the Air Force, they returned to Oakland where Evelyn worked for the government as a compliance negotiator. They then moved to the Hayward/ San Lorenzo area where she became an active and beloved member of the St. John’s Catholic Parish community, president of the St. Gerard Women’s Club, a devout CCD teacher, and a special part of many other Catholic organizations. She also became involved with the Widows Network after her husband’s death in 1988, the Don Castro Questers, as well as various leadership roles at the Alta Mira Club.
Evelyn loved to travel with her friends both in the United States and throughout Europe, and did so often. She was known as a successful bridge player and would frequently attend social events. Perhaps most famous among her family was her love of bowling. A holy woman, she dedicated her life to helping those less fortunate, a mission that will undoubtedly inspire her friends and family for years to come. Her compassion and sincere nature warmed everyone she met. To celebrate Evelyn, a vigil will be held at Grissom's Mortuary in San Lorenzo Sunday, November 5th. Visitation is from 5pm-7pm with the vigil service at 7pm. The funeral service will be held at St. John’s Catholic Church in San Lorenzo on Monday, November 6th at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Gerard Women’s Club of the St. John’s Catholic parish in San Lorenzo, PO Box 155, San Lorenzo, CA 94580.
