Esperanza “Dolores” “Lola” Ponce

On April 13, 2019, Esperanza “Dolores” Ponce entered peacefully into heaven surrounded by her family, she was 89. Dolores was a generous person who was always willing to help those in need, she was a fun, beautiful, strong, independent woman with a kind heart.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, trips to Reno, good pastries and her seven & sevens, she loved fancy cars, fancy clothes, and she especially loved her cats.  At a time when it was uncommon, Dolores was an independent Oakland business woman, she was the owner of “Lola’s” bar and also a jewelry store in Swan’s market, when she retired she was the manager of Neldam’s Danish bakery.

A loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother and Auntie has joined her loved ones in heavenly peace- her Mother, Virginia Garcia Hernandez; husband, Jose Luis Luna Ponce; brother, Rudolph Villagrana; and son, Moses Joseph Alvarez.  She is survived by many family members including, David and Ricky Armijo, Rigo Luna and family, Grandchildren, April and Jason Alvarez; Great-Grandchildren, Brandy, Tony & Matthew Gonzalez & Vanessa Benavidez; Joseph, Jennah, Jason Jr., Elias & Joshua Alvarez; Great-Great grandchildren: Luna Gonzalez & Angel Alvarez, and many Nephews and Nieces, she will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.

A memorial service will be held at Grissom’s Chapel, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo, at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, a burial prayer service will follow at Holy Sepulchre cemetery in Hayward, the family will host a celebration of life immediately following.
