BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF A GREAT WOMAN

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1

Emma Wren was born to Gertrude and David Wren in Emelle, Alabama. She was the seventh of fifteen sisters and brothers. At the age of three months, her parents moved to Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Mulga Elementary School and completed her high school education at Westfield High. Her desire was to attend college upon graduation, but the income of her father was not sufficient to permit her to do so. At the age of 18, she married Woodrow Person, Jr. To this union was born a daughter, Regina Loette Person and a son, Dexter Lanard Person; the person family has been graced with five grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren. In 1965, the Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, Alabama, (Tuskegee University), established and anti-poverty program designed to admit students who could not afford a college education. Emma was selected as one of those students, eight years after she graduated high school. The stipulation for remaining at Tuskegee Institute, now Tuskegee University, was that each student must maintain a 3.0 grade point average. With God’s help, along with her dear husband Woodrow, and brother, David Wren, M.D., she was blessed to make the Dean’s list, maintaining a 3.0 grade point average until she graduated in 1969. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Administration with a minor in Biochemistry. From 1969 to 1970 she completed a Dietetic Internship at the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco, California. Mother Person worked as a Clinical Dietitian at Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, San Francisco, California from October 5, 1970 to May 24, 1994. Mother Person has the distinction of being the first African American Dietician to work at Saint Francis.

Give her of the fruits of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates Proverbs 31:31
