Emma Albertina Morales Coughlin passed away on June 1, 2017 at her home in San Leandro, California. She was 91.

Emma was born August 28, 1925 and was raised in Mataquescuintla, Guatemala. Emma selflessly immigrated to the United States to seek a better life for her family in 1953. It wasn't long after that she became the matriarch of the family and established her permanent residency in the U.S. in 1954.

Emma began her journey through the United States as a nanny in San Francisco; it was there that she met her late husband and the love of her life, Patrick Coughlin. Emma, then, started working for Simmons. This is where she met many of her lifelong friends that became family. Emma worked there for 35 years.

Once retired, she continued to work for the elderly that were in need of care and fully retired at the age of 81; she loved helping people.

Emma loved to experience life. She traveled to several places in Europe, Hawaii, throughout the United States, Mexico, Central America, and Canada, where Patrick was born. Memories of Emma typically include family, laughing and cooking.

She is survived by her 4 living siblings: Leanor Padilla, Frank Morales, Mery Miller, and Elizabeth Cuestas, and two brothers Carlos and Pedro that predeceased her, her 6 children and their spouses: Pablo Morales, Cesar Tabarini, Jorge and Debbie Cifuentes, Emma and Clark Luntey, Dianna and Randy Boychuk, along with her 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She will be missed dearly.

Visitation services will be at Grissom's Chapel and Mortuary in San Lorenzo on Friday June 9th at 7pm. Funeral Services with a Catholic mass will be held at St. John's Catholic Church in San Lorenzo on Saturday June 10th at 1pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals (www.makeagift.ucsf.edu), St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, or Hope Hospice (www.hopehospice.com)

The arrangements were respectfully entrusted to Grissom’s private Crematory, San Lorenzo, Ca.
