Elzadia (Smith) Jamerson was born July 14, 1925, in Forbing, LA, to the union of Robert Smith and Pearl Shepherd. She had one sister, Vera, who preceded her in death. Elzadia lived her formative years in Shreveport, LA, where she and her family were faithful members of Paradise Baptist Church. Under the leadership of Pastor Caesar Walker, she accepted Christ at an early age.
Elzadia attended Tuskegee University in Alabama. She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing. In 1944, she and her family moved to Oakland, CA.
After moving to California, Elzadia met and married William Jamerson in 1950. To that union, Marilyn Diane Jamerson was born in 1952. Marilyn preceded her mother in death in 2015. William Jamerson also preceded her in death.
Elzadia made a career for herself as a Registered Nurse. She was an early pioneer when there were very few African American Registered nurses in the Bay Area.
She skillfully and benevolently cared for her patients in the East Bay hospitals as a pediatric and neo-nurse for over 30 years.
Elzadia, along with her daughter, Marilyn, joined Beth Eden Baptist Church in August 1991.
They were active members and absolutely loved their church family. If you saw Elzadia, Marilyn was not far behind.
Elzadia and Marilyn loved their pets, especially their beloved cat, Marakesh.
Elzadia leaves to mourn in her passing her cousins, Ginny Shepherd Johnson of Benecia, CA, David (Rose) Shepherd of Los Angeles, CA, Levern (Ava) Shepherd of LaQuinta, CA, Regina (Tim) and Nigel Harrison, of San Jose, CA, Pearly Mae Bryant, Velma Kyles, and Ivy Hairston, of Shreveport, LA. She also leaves her Beth Eden church family, her GERICARE family, where she resided until her passing on Friday, October 18, 2019, and Terrie Kent, her Conservator, who was her Guardian Angel throughout.
Quiet Hour for Elzadia will take place from 10:00 - 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Beth Eden Baptist Church, 1183 10th St, Oakland, CA 94607, with Services to begin at 11:00 AM.
