Born in San Francisco on June 21, 1924, Elma was 92 years old when she entered peacefully into rest on November 6, 2016. Elma was married to Emil "Tony" Pane for 59 years until he passed in 2007. Elma and Emil were retired for over 30 years, traveling the world, playing golf, and enjoying their family and many friends.
Elma will be remembered for her witty banter, quick wit and the way she was always keyed into pop culture references. Her sense of humor was one that allowed her to joke around with people of all ages. Her grandchildren greatly enjoyed the fact that she always “got” their jokes.
Elma was a well-known face at the Fremont Dept. of Motor Vehicles where she worked for over 25 years. She was a longtime member of the Tri-Cities Women’s Club, holding many different positions. Her most memorable accomplishment was running the Spring Fling Fashion show to raise money for One Child. Elma was always giving back, volunteering at the Discovery Cancer Store for 17 years and also at One Child. Elma and Emil were longtime parishioners of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Elma moved to the Stoneridge Creek Retirement Center in 2014 after living in Fremont for over 49 years.
Elma is survived by her two sons and their spouses, Lary and Colleen Pane of Lombard, IL and Jim and Diane Pane of Castro Valley. She was idolized by her grandchildren Brenda Pane (Mark Pelham), Nicholas Pane (Lindsey), Eric Pane (Valerie), Anthony Pane and Alexander Pane. She was a proud Nana to her two great-grandsons Nicholas Emil Pane and Dylan Ryan Pane.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 11:00 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 37588 Fremont Blvd, Fremont. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Emil, at the San Joaquin National Cemetery in Gustine.
