Elaine Veronica James was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the union of Joseph and Rita James on December 2nd, 1939. She passed away peacefully on August 6th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Elaine moved to Oakland, CA at a very earl age and attended Oakland public schools, graduating from Fremont High School. Elaine married Henry j Jason Ashworth Jr. in May of 1958 and to this union four kids were born; Theresa, Wanda, Henry, and Crystal. Elaine worked several jobs throughout her career. She was a supervisor at Oakland airport, where she hired many of her relatives. She ended her career and retired from working for Dr. Disalvo.

Elaine enjoyed playing Pinochle with her family all day and night, going to her favorite casinos, bingo, and especially scratching lottery tickets and eating out at Ihop, Sizzler, and Black Angus.

Elaine waws preceded in death by her brothers, Joe, Bernard, and Byron. Also preceded in death by her son Henry Jason Ashworth III. Cherishing her memory is one sister, Brenda (Phil), one brother, Wayne (Debbie), her three daughters, Theresa (Sam) of Hayward, Wanda (Ken-in-Heaven) Avondale, Crystal (Ronnie) of Brentwood. Elaine also leaves her grandchildren Earl (Twanedda), Kisha, Damon, David, Quiana, Danielle (Cameron), Brittney, and Jada. Bonus grandsons Adrian and Justin, a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-laws, and other family and friends.

We find comfort in knowing that she joins the table playing Pinochle with her brothers. Her legacy of love and joy continues to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
