USMC Veteran. SGT Edward Payne "Rambo" Reed died November 9, 2025.

He is survived by his wife and love, Theresa Margaret Reed, the children of his heart, Amanda, Jawn and Nick McQuade; his Aunt Adel Perillo and Cousin Dawn Nagata and their family.

Edward "Rambo" Reed was born on July 3, 1945, in Westerly, Rhode Island to Navy parents. His mother was a nurse and his dad was a pilot, which started Rambo’s love of planes.

As a child he settled in Hayward, CA where he attended Tennyson High School, then in San Lorenzo, CA at Arroyo High School, graduating in 1963.

He joined the Marine Corps in 1965 and spent 8 years, 2 tours in Vietnam where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was injured in the line of duty and was medically discharged with a disability to his feet that plagued him the rest of his life.

Ed roamed around the Southern U.S. and finally found his way to Florida, where he spent years continuing his vocation of logistics that he learned from the Marines, salvaging and care taking and always with his dogs.

In 1995, he moved back to California with his aging parents and extended family. Edward met T and her kids at church, where they, and also his Aunt and Cousin attended.

Due to his love for animals, he was a member of the Port Townsend, WA and his local SPCA, where he got his dog MaryJane from.

He was a Master Gardener and herbalist known for his Quiet Bear healing salve. He also won a special prize at the Hayward Zucchini Festival some years ago, with the giant Zukes dressed up like Elvis Presley and his girl groupies.

Services will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery Tuesday, November 25th, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Reception to follow at the Reed’s address; 20198 Ricardo Ave., Hayward CA.
