On Friday, October 7, 2022, Dorothy Aileen Cartwright, loving wife, mother and grandmother of six went to be with the Lord at the age of 72.  Dorothy was born on August 9, 1950, to proud parents Frank and Rebecca Thomas.  She had a beautiful childhood growing up in Orinda with her brother Tom and two sisters, Chrissy and Denise.  The legacy of Dorothy’s life started when Dorothy and John fell in love.  In 1983 they started a family, with their first daughter Christie Autumn and later Bonnie Brook.  They were married for 39 years.  She was always happiest around her children.  She cherished her relationship with John’s two boys, Ben and Josh and always showered them with love.  Words can’t describe how incredibly gentle, loving, nurturing, and selfless she was, not only as a mother, but as a grandmother, wife and friend.  Her generosity was unmatched.  So many sacrifices were made so that her children and grandchildren could be better off and she always put herself last.  Dorothy was stunningly beautiful, both inside and outside.  Some of her most cherished moments in life were spent with her grandchildren over the holidays.  They stole her heart.  It was a magical time for her.  The amount of effort she would put into decorating Easter eggs with Vail, Layla and Cash was a labor of love.  She loved getting the whole family together so that all the grandkids could play together.  We will miss her every day of our lives but will keep her memory alive and cherish her forever.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Rebecca, and father Frank.  She is survived by her husband John, her sons Ben and Josh, daughters Christie and Bonnie, and her grandchildren, Gracie, Lilly, Layla, Cash, Vail and Graceson.
