Dennis James O'Hara entered peacefully into rest in Castro Valley, California on September 25, 2021. He was 83 years old.

Born August 26, 1938 in Oakland, California to parents John L. O'Hara Sr. and Grace O’Hara, Dennis was known to friends and family as Red, or Rabit. He graduated from Castlemont High School, Class of 1957. Following six years of honorable service in the United States Marine Corps Reserves, Dennis went on to work as a telecommunications engineer for Pacific Bell for 35 years, where he was awarded many management accolades. He enjoyed coaching baseball, softball and soccer, receiving several awards for his coaching abilities, and also volunteered as an umpire and referee. He loved going to Disneyland with his family.

Dennis is survived by his children Shawn O’Hara (ex-wife Kim), Kevin O’Hara (Sheré), Jon Bumgarner (Susana Defreitas) and Shannon Rosemeyer (Mark); grandchildren Patrick O’Hara (Nicole), Kenny O’Hara (Brandy), Joshua O’Hara, Casey Clarke and Madison Bumgarner; great grandchildren Julie, Gabriel, Lilly, Philip, and Emily O’Hara; and many other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Diana Jean O’Hara; and siblings John L. O’Hara Jr. (Barbara) and Kenny O’Hara. Dennis will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of the Lives of Dennis and Diana O’Hara will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Grissom’s Mortuary, 267 E. Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo, CA. Dennis and Diana will be laid to rest at Chapel of the Chimes, Hayward, CA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
