Life Legacy

Davyne Kris Bradley, died on November 27th, 2020 at Valley Care Medical Center in Pleasanton, California after a years-long fight with cancer. She is survived by husband Timothy, son Colin, daughter Imoen, as well as her parents David and Joline Parks, younger brother Scott Parks, and many other family and friends who loved her very deeply.

Davyne was born on March 8th, 1974 in Enumclaw, Washington. As a child Davyne grew to love the outdoors, camping, softball and baseball, baking, agriculture, gardening, crafts, music, drawing and other creative arts. She was a Girl Scout and was also involved in 4H. She bred rabbits for competitive showing, and became heavily involved in that organization, eventually organizing some of their events. Family was always important to Davyne and some of her most cherished moments were working on projects with her Dad; playing games, baking, and doing crafts with her mom; and of trips to visit her Grandma, aunts, uncles, and cousins. In particular, she loved being at Grandma’s, sleeping upstairs there with an electric blanket, playing cribbage and rummy with her, and most of all, of Christmas breakfast with ham, eggs, and butterhorns. This is a tradition she carried on with her own family.

Having a mind for the creative arts, Davyne graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Washington in 1996 and worked as a graphic artist, magazine editor, and online web designer from that time until her death. She met her future husband, Tim, in 1993 while at the university. After graduation they continued to live in the Seattle area, eventually purchasing a home in the Maple Leaf neighborhood, to which she eagerly applied her skills as a gardener. Tim worked as a software engineer while Davyne worked at JCPenney in Bellevue, eventually becoming an assistant manager. In addition to her employment in retail she continued to find outlets for her graphic design abilities.

In 2001 the couple’s son, Colin, was born. With his birth, Davyne made the decision to transition to part time work so that she could spend the bulk of her energy and attention on being a mother, a role she took very seriously, and, as with all things Davyne took seriously, she threw herself into the details. To ensure her child was healthy and safe she started to learn as much as she could about nutrition and healthy living.

In 2004, the three of them moved to Auckland, New Zealand. Shortly after the move, Davyne gave birth to her and Tim’s daughter, Imoen. With two children, Davyne was heavily focused on being a mother. Her interest in nutrition and a healthy environment led her to learn about how such things were approached in New Zealand, which ultimately had a large impact on her philosophy. The move also presented her the opportunity to work remotely as the editor of Sidelights, the magazine of the Masters, Mates, and Pilots organization, a job for which she could directly apply her talent for graphic design.

In 2008, Davyne and her family moved to Dublin, California. Davyne and Tim joined the Unitarian Universalist Church in Livermore, where Davyne eventually became head of the building and grounds committee. This activity renewed her interest in gardening, particularly in drought tolerant and organic methods, and in the use of California native plants. These skills she applied not only to the church grounds but also to her home in Dublin.

During her time in Dublin, Davyne volunteered at Dublin Elementary school while her children attended, became a Girl Scout leader when Imoen joined that organization, went on Boy Scout trips with Colin, took copious, professional-quality photographs of and for everyone at Colin’s DeMolay events and band concerts, as well as at Imoen’s soccer and softball games and various concerts and her husband’s lodge activities. When Colin joined the Dublin High School band she joined the music boosters, eventually becoming a member of their board. She helped coordinate and was otherwise heavily involved in many of their activities. She continued this level of support for that organization when Imoen joined.

While doing this Davyne continued her involvement with the church, drawing spiritual nourishment from its chalice circle and other groups. In 2017, she began working full time at Minuteman Press, a position she retained until she was no longer physically capable of doing so. Throughout it all she remained a devoted and loving mother and wife and a pillar of the community. She left an indelible mark on everyone and everything she touched. She will be deeply missed.
