David (Dave) Minor Walton passed away on May 18, 2025 at the age of 77, surrounded by his family. He was a lifelong resident of San Leandro, California. Dave was a proud graduate of San Lorenzo Highschool Class of 1966 where he played varsity football. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Army. He served in the 37th Signal Battalion as a Communications Center Supervisor in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969 and in Germany from 1969 to 1970. He earned four medals during his three years of service. When he returned from serving his country, he attended Cal State Hayward (now CSU East Bay) where he graduated with a political science degree with the help of the GI bill.
Dave was a hardworking man who had several careers in his lifetime. First in real estate and later retired as a UFCW assistant manager. After his first retirement, he began working as a Alameda County Sheriff Security Aide, after which he accepted a medical retirement.
He didn’t live loudly, but he was steady, honest, and loyal - the kind of man who never missed a birthday and showed up when someone needed a hand. His pride and joy were his two children, Cindy and Jason. He loved them dearly and spoke about them to anyone who lent an ear.
He loved history, politics, a good hearty breakfast with friends, and spending time with family -especially for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Dave is survived by his wife Sandi of 45 years; his daughter Cindy and her spouse Scott; his son Jason and his spouse Sbeydeh. As well as four grandchildren: Amber, Jacob, Santiago, and Estela.
A mass of Christian burial will be held with family and friends at St. Felicitas Church in San Leandro on Friday May 23rd at 11 am. A private internment will be held at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Veteran serving organizations.
