David Swerrie

September 3, 1993 - April 15, 2023

Life Legacy

David Alexander Swerrie, 29, of San Jose, CA, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on April 15, 2023. His family is heartbroken by his sudden death. David was born on September 3, 1993. David was born at Good Samaritan Hospital in the city of San Jose, where he lived all his life. He graduated from Ann Sobrato High School.

David came out of the womb serious and contemplative. Always thoughtful and introspective, David was a life-long learner. He was intimidatingly smart on a diverse number of topics, and always up for a spirited discussion on virtually anything. David would never back down from a debate, and was exactingly precise in how he expressed himself. His passion for knowledge and understanding was very evident in every communication with him.

David consumed movies and films voraciously. He always had a movie recommendation and it was always a good one. One of his favorites was "Synechdoche, New York". He enjoyed making backyard films with his sister Kyra in childhood, regardless of their quality.

David was passionate about music: weird, nerdy and alternative music. One of his favorite bands was Titus Andronicus, a love he shared with his brother Dominic. They attended a concert together for the first time since the pandemic shortly before he died, and David wore a band shirt he bought there almost continuously after the show. He was proud of it.

David liked computers and video games. He frequently kept in contact with his siblings through online gaming. The night before he passed away, he enjoyed playing "Red Dead Redemption" with his brother Ben and his family.

David had an affinity for sci-fi and fantasy games and content. He enjoyed crafting campaigns for Dungeons and Dragons. In the weekends prior to his death, David was the dungeon master with his brother Marcos and his friends.

There are so many beautiful things about David that are hard to put into words. He could be kind and gentle, passionate and forceful, quiet and sincere. David was a complex human being, sometimes difficult to understand, but he did everything intentionally in his life. He was a little boy that loved Digimon, Hamtaro, and Charmander, and a grown man that enjoyed A's games with his family, Haruki Murakami books, and Norm MacDonald.

David is survived by his mother Colleen Clary and father Erik Swerrie; his brothers Ben Swerrie (Linda Petery), Dominic Cabeca (Lacey Chaffee) and Marcos Herrera; his sister Kyra Swerrie; his niece Mara Sciara; his grandmother Alice Clary; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends: all of whom were special and loved by David.

David was predeceased by his Nana and Grandpa, Dee and Martha Swerrie; his Papa Paul D. Clary III, his cousin Mathew Luce, and his beloved dog Shiro.

The loss of David is enormous, and he will be forever missed by those who knew and loved him.

An informal memorial get-together will be held on Sunday May 7, 2023 at 1PM at Casa Blanca Banquet Hall, 1682 Monterey Hwy, San Jose, CA, 95112.

Donations can be made in David's memory to The SAGE Compassion for Animals Foundation.
