David Garcia Rivero passed away peacefully on October 3, 2016 at home with his loving family by his side. Born in Mexico City, Mexico DF and resident of Oakland since 1961. Beloved husband of Josephine R. Rivero, who proceeded him in death in 2001. Loving father to: David Rivero Jr., Sylvia Carrera, Celia Rivero, Rebecca Garcia, Armando Rivero, Hilda Ortiz and Rey Rivero and brother to: Rosa Arriaga Rivero and Jesus Rivero. David came to the U.S. at the age of 17 to work on the railroad. He later met Josephine Robles and married in 1945, settling in Corpus Christi, Texas working for Haliburton. In 1961, they moved to Oakland where he worked two-three jobs to support his family. He retired from Oakland Housing Authority and continued to keep busy taking on small jobs. He enjoyed gardening watching the sports channel, and eating out on Friday’s with his children. He was a fan of Mexican futbol soccer, Oakland Raiders and Oakland A’s. He leaves behind his 7 children, 18 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. A Celebration of David’s Life will held on Saturday, October 8. 2016 11:00AM at Grissom’s Chapel & Mortuary 267 E. Lewelling Blvd. in San Lorenzo, CA.
