Clyde Ortiz

October 17, 1927 - July 22, 2026

Life Legacy

Clyde M. Ortiz was born October 17th, 1927 and passed away peacefully July 22, 2026. 

He was 98 years old.
Born and raised in Ashland Ca by his Grandparents Manuel and Mary Lemos.
Eldest of 12 children.
He attended and graduated Hayward High School in Hayward Ca.
He then joined the United States Army and served his time overseas in Japan, and Hawaii during World War II. Clyde was an entertainer playing drums for his fellow tour mates, and he served as a medic before returning home.
After serving in the Army, Clyde returned home to help his Grandparents finances through the depression. Throughout his hard work he bought his home in San Leandro at the age of 18, and has owned it until his passing.
Clyde met his wife Beverly in the early 1950s at the Ashland Portuguese hall. The two were married for 70 years until her passing in 2024.
Clyde and his wife Beverly were married April 3 1954. They had 2 children. Clyde F. Ortiz and Debra J. Ortiz.
Clyde has been apart of the Ashland Association where he met his wife for over 80 years. He played drums in the band on Saturday nights there, he joined the association and had been Marshall for the festa parades for many years and an active member to the day of his passing.
Clydes passion was big band Music. He enjoyed performing, playing drums. He had been performing in clubs in San Francisco that he wasn't even old enough to be in to raise money for his school clothes and such.
Clyde had been a hard worker from a very young age growing up in the depression. By the age of 10, he worked cutting fruit at an apricot orchard in San Lorenzo, he helped stock goods at a market in Ashland, and he rebuilt bicycles to make ends meet for his grandparents. He worked for his Uncle at Amarals Linguica, and for a gas station selling gas for 18 cents a gallon. He would also offer rototil services on the side for your lawn or orchard. As he grew into an adult he worked for Peter Wheat bread delivery services, driving from the bay area to the valley with fresh baked goods. Once he and Beverly were starting a family, he chose to work locally to be closer to home with his family. He started working at Sears in Hayward Ca in the receiving department where he retired after 30 plus years.
Upon retiring he and his wife took up line dancing and performed with the Hayward stoppers. He met many of their friends at the San Lorenzo Moose lodge and Hayward Eagles hall. Clyde was a very social person. To pass time he enjoyed walking around his block and talking with the neighbors. Clyde enjoyed playing music so much he even was a DJ for his local senior center. He really enjoyed big band and party music. He enjoyed hosting and DJing New year's eve parties at the Ashland Hall as well.
A hobby Clyde started after retirement was designing and creating wooden cut outs that he would trace on wood, cut and paint. He had a whole outdoor Christmas display.
He made decorative santas, boots, cats, parrots, ducks, dancing silhouettes, earring holders and more. He enjoyed giving them to friends and family.
Clyde enjoyed taking trips with his wife on cruises. They had been on multiple cruises with friends and family.  One of his most favorite trips was taking his wife, his kids, and grandkids to Oahu in the late 90s. He felt good that he was a very knowledgeable tour guide for them and took pride in showing them around.  Clyde has three grandchildren. Michelle J. Pena, Jennifer L. Ortiz, and Andrew J. Oriz
Clyde has four great grandchildren, Alex J. Ortiz, Vincent W. Ortiz,  Victoria F. Ortiz, and Marissa J. Palomino.
Clyde was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Cousin, Godfather, Brother and friend.
His memory, his wisdom, his stories, inspiration, dedication, and motivation and our love for him will remain always and forever.
