Christine Marchini MacLaughlin passed into eternity in San Leandro on February 17th, 2021. She was born in Oakland on January 8, 1953, a birthdate she proudly shared with Elvis Presley.
Raised in San Leandro with her older brother, Mike, Chris attended James Monroe Elementary, Bancroft Junior High and San Leandro High School. They spent many summers with their maternal grandmother and cousins in Seattle and Mt. Vernon, Washington. One highlight of those summer trips was attending a 1966 Beatles concert. Tickets were $5.00. As a teen, Chris volunteered at San Leandro Memorial Hospital, working up to Senior Candy Striper. Following high school graduation in 1971, she worked at Sears in Hayward while taking business and office courses at Chabot College. A promotion at Sears sent her to Cupertino. Later, she held a variety of administrative positions with Chase Manhattan Mortgage, Montague Company, and others, retiring from Acme Analytical in 2015.
She met her husband Ken MacLaughlin, Jr. during one of many Caribbean cruises. They were married in 2000 and moved into Ken's home at Mission Bay Mobile Home Park. Chris and Ken loved vacationing in Waikiki, often staying at the Moana Surfrider Resort where they developed many friendships. Chris had great stories of Ken driving around Waikiki on his motorized scooter scaring pedestrians. Since Ken's passing in 2016, Chris enjoyed spending time with Mission Bay friends and occasional trips back to Hawaii.
Preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Bernice Marchini and husband, Ken, Chris is survived by her brother Michael (Debbie) Marchini, nephew Kyle (Elizabeth) Marchini, niece Kayla Marchini, friend and neighbor Liz Griffiths, and her Shih Tzu Kamalani.
