Catherine Marie Meier was born to Oscar and Grace Grohs on September 8, 1949.  Cathy lost her battle with cancer and its complications at home on Sunday, September 19th, 2021, with her loving partner by her side.  She was raised in San Lorenzo, California along with her sister Judy Cubillo and brother Ralph Grohs, and graduated from Arroyo High School, Class of 1967.

Cathy started her working career at Sears and Roebuck and later spent many years working in the title and escrow business with North American Title, Fidelity, and American Title.  Cathy’s last job was with Lindquist LLP in San Ramon, where she worked over 10 years.  Cathy enjoyed working and was a dedicated and loyal employee until health complications prevented her from continuing.

Cathy enjoyed spending time with her two daughters, Melissa Coto and Meghan Herring, and their respective families.  She absolutely adored her four grandchildren: Tyler Coto, Mitchell Herring, Matilda Herring, and Logan Coto.  A perfect day for Cathy was a backyard barbeque or a picnic with family in one of the Bay Area’s open spaces.  Nothing fancy, just a day filled with her grandkids, wonderful conversation and good food.

Good food… Cooking was a passion for Cathy.  New recipes and old favorites, Cathy prepared everything from everyday meals to holiday feasts with love and compassion.  Enjoying a meal at Cathy’s table was always memorable, always a treat. 

Camping in state and national parks around California, day trips in the Bay Area, and road trips through California, Nevada, Arizona and Utah is how Cathy enjoyed her vacations.  Favorite places included Plumas Eureka State Park, the Wawona Hotel in Yosemite, the June Lake area, and the Marin Headlands… all held special memories for her.  Cathy recorded her trips by creating beautiful watercolor journals… each with wonderful descriptions of sights and sounds seen along the way. 

Cathy is going to missed by all who knew her.  Kind, compassionate, loving... always taking care of others before taking care of herself.  Cathy was so beautiful, both inside and out.

Cathy is survived by her partner, John Mitchell; her daughter Melissa Coto and her husband, Robert, and their children Tyler and Logan; her daughter Meghan Herring and her husband Mark, and their children Mitchell and Matilda; her sister Judy Cubillo and her husband Sonny, along with Cathy’s nieces Jenny McLane and Stacy Preciado and their families.  Cathy is predeceased by her parents Oscar and Grace Grohs and her brother Ralph Grohs.
